Abstract

Like a Rolling Stone is a cross cultural contemporary jewellery project that was inspired by the Bob Dylan song from 1965. Three Italian Jewellery artists: Maria Rosa Franzin, Gigi Mariani and Gabs Veit were invited to travel to Edinburgh for a week in 2016 to work with seven jewellery artists based in the UK: Susan Cross, Jo Pudelko, Jessica Turrell, Rhona McCallum, Stephen Bottomley and Jessamy Kelly (including staff from the Jewellery & Silversmithing Programme at ECA). Like a Rolling Stone explores the themes of relocation, transplantation, camouflage, identity and materiality through mixed media jewellery. Geology and geophysics are used as an analogy to illustrate the topical theme of population displacement.
The show was shown in Munich in March 2018 as part of the Munich Jewellery Week and will tour back to Edinburgh June 2018, this exhibition was curated by Stephen Bottomley.
