Abstract

In this paper the results of the design and the implementation of a visible light wireless communication system for indoor data transmission applications are presented. The prototype is based on white LEDs and DSP boards. The white LEDs are used for indoor illumination as well as to provide a modulated visible emission for data transmission. The system uses real-time algorithms for OFDM, and implements different modulation schemes as well. Moreover, training sequences are realized for channel estimation. In addition, FEC is applied and the performance of COFDM system is evaluated. It will be shown that for a COFDM using QPSK modulation scheme a BER of 10-7 was achieved for 50cm separation distance between the optical transmitter and the optical receiver using a single white LED.
