Abstract

A three column timeline for Scottish history, placing events in Scotland alongside concurrent events in 'British' history and the wider world. It provides a framework for Scottish history, as a reference resource for students and history enthusiasts, as well as giving a wider historical context to events in Scotland. The framework allows those inexperienced in Scottish history to map Scottish history onto the histories they already know. It also seeks to highlight the connections between political, religious, and social developments, movements, and the circulation of people and ideas between Scotland, the British Isles, Europe and beyond.
