Abstract

This is the couplet chanted by Edinburgh schoolboys at the monumental tomb in the city's Greyfriars Kirkyard of Sir George Mackenzie of Rosehaugh (1636–1691), Lord Advocate 1677–1686 and 1688-1689and Dean of the Faculty of Advocates 1682–1690. On 13 October 1984 the Scottish Legal History Group commemorated the tercentenary of Mackenzie's Institutions of the Law of Scotland at its fourth annual conference and the following papers on his life, work and times were read.
