Two disordered phases of the β-Tin structure in binary semiconductors

Abstract

The nature of ordering on β-tin lattice was investigated using antiferromagnetic Ising model. The specific heat capacity was noted to determine the occurrence of phase transitions. Using x-ray crystallography it was found that no ordered β-tin phases existed at room temperature in compound semiconductors. It was proposed from density functional pseudopotential calculations that there were two temperature driven transitions between β-tin structures.
