Abstract

The rise of research data management has stimulated the growth of a new field of data librarians in the UK, alternately dubbed RDM coordinators or data librarians, mostly but not always based in academic libraries. The current situation will be contextualized by a recent history of research data services in the UK and a look at how UK services have been influenced by both the European model of national data archives and North American university-based services. The role of research funders in driving institutional change and the response of academic libraries to new requirements for research support will be examined.
